Privacy Policy
What information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
TERROIR Journal (“TERROIR,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates terroirjournal.com and publishes The TERROIR Letter newsletter. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
1. Information We Collect
Information you give us. When you subscribe to our newsletter, you provide your email address. If you contact us, we receive your email address and the contents of your message so we can respond.
Information collected automatically. When you visit the site, we and our analytics provider collect standard technical data such as your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, the site that referred you, and approximate (city-level) location, through cookies and similar technologies.
What we do not collect. We do not collect or store payment or financial information. Any purchases you make happen on third-party retailer websites, which handle their own checkout and data.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To send you The TERROIR Letter, if you have subscribed.
- To understand how readers use the site so we can improve our content.
- To respond to your questions and messages.
- To operate, maintain, and secure the website.
3. Cookies and Tracking
We use cookies and similar technologies for two main purposes:
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics to measure traffic and understand how the site is used.
- Affiliate attribution. When you click a product or retailer link, the retailer or an affiliate network may set a cookie so a resulting purchase can be credited to us. See our Disclosures page for more.
You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect how parts of the site work.
4. The Newsletter
The TERROIR Letter is delivered using Beehiiv, our email provider. When you subscribe, your email address is stored and processed by Beehiiv on our behalf so we can send you the newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any email.
5. Third-Party Services
We rely on a few trusted third parties to run the site and newsletter:
- Beehiiv — delivers our newsletter and manages subscriptions.
- Google Analytics — measures website traffic and usage.
- Affiliate advertising networks (such as Rakuten Advertising, CJ, and Impact) — attribute purchases made through our affiliate links.
- Hosting and security providers — third-party hosting and content-delivery providers operate the site reliably and protect it from abuse; these may process technical data such as IP addresses as part of delivering the site.
We do not sell your personal information.
6. Affiliate Links
TERROIR participates in affiliate programs. When you buy through some of our links, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. Full details are on our Disclosures page.
7. Your Rights and Choices
- Unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link in any email.
- Access, correct, or delete the personal information we hold about you by emailing us at adrian@terroirjournal.com.
- Opt out of Google Analytics by installing Google’s official opt-out browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

8. Data Retention
We keep newsletter information for as long as you remain subscribed and for a reasonable period afterward. Analytics information is retained according to our analytics provider’s standard settings. We keep information only as long as needed for the purposes described here.
